An Original AllSouth Networks Production
"How can any music be so lonesome and sound so good . . . ."
Bluegrass music is one of the South's purest art forms and, for those who want to experience it in one of its rawest, there is only one location you need to seek - The Station Inn - since 1974, one of Nashville's (and, the South's) greatest musical treasures.
Located in the Gulch area of downtown, The Station Inn has been both a proving ground for up and coming Bluegrass artists to demonstrate their talent as well as a much needed connection to the community for the artists that have found musical stardom but still want to stay in touch with their string picking roots.
Even Bill Monroe considered this his own personal home away from home.
In 1981, J.T. Gray bought the club with the mission of keeping it virtually the same as it always had been.
And why not? There isn't a bad seat in the house, momentos of past performances cover the walls, and some lucky listeners even get to sit in tour bus seats that used to belong to Lester Flatts and Earl Scruggs. Add a frosty beverage and a "Thing" of popcorn and you have the makings of a tremendous night. It's Bluegrass Heaven!
Please enjoy this AllSouth Original as J.T. tells the history of The Station Inn, its place in Bluegrass lore, and, please, don't miss the performance of Nashville's own, Mashville Brigade.
